MARTIAN REBEL, SEPTEMBER 4, 2004

review by Jennifer

Southern Ontario’s own Martian Rebel played a private party on Saturday September 4th, to a crowd of eager listeners. Completing their long existing group in 2003, Martian Rebel are all about having a good time and playing great tunes.

They performed covers for over 2 hours thrilling the audience with their accuracy and talent, acing songs from Black Sabbath (by personal request!), The Rolling Stones to Weezer. The show was high energy and with great sound, even in the outdoors of a Lynden area ranch.

Martian Rebel opened up their own roster to us well, adding a new a fresh flavor to the mix. Performing 10 originals, thrown into the mix of renowned covers, is truly a courageous feat; but Martian Rebel was fantastic. Mixing remnants of classic riffs with a modern pop rock attitude and lyrics, Martian Rebel creates a catchy but serious overall sound. Songs like “I Want Out” and “Nervous Wreck” are sweet compilations where the music and lyrics fit so perfectly to sum up what the Martian Rebel sound is all about.
